What is the depiction of the Divine Baby Jesus candle?

The Child Jesus stands with his arms open wide, a joyful infant eager to be raised up and held close to our hearts. His innocent, loving smile encourages us to trust in his goodwill for all the world. His pink tunic on the candle represents his love for the world while reminding us of the sacrifice he willingly makes.

This depiction on the prayer candle of the Christ Child, dressed in a pink tunic, is based on the statue commissioned by Father John Rizzo in Colombia in 1925. Father Rizzo was charged with collecting donations for the construction of a new church in Bogota, but was reluctant to ask his neighbors, who lived in great poverty. When Father Rizzo knelt before an image of the Virgin Mary to ask for help, he also asked the Infant Jesus for strength and courage to fulfill his tasks. The child in his Mother’s arms seemed to open his arms wide and say, “Take me with you! I want to go with you!”

The Sanctuary of the Divine Child Jesus was completed, but Father Rizzo’s early, modest church had to be replaced with a much larger church in 1992 to accommodate the thousands of people who still come to venerate the Child Jesus there. Pilgrims bring gifts bread and chocolate, continuing the tradition Father Rizzo began as he offered bread and chocolate to the local children every morning.

Warning: Burn within sight. Keep away from things that catch fire. Keep away from children and pets. Trim wick to 1/4" (6mm) each time the candle is lit. Keep wax free of debris. Always place lit candle on a level heat-resistant surface. Glass will be hot during and after use.
