What is the depiction of Saint Clara on this 8" Catholic devotional candle?
Saint Clare is shown in her yellow, blue, and white Benedictine habit. She contemplates the monstrance she holds in both hands, which displays the body of our Lord in the form of the Eucharist. An early follower and friend of Saint Francis of Assisi, Clare renounced the wealth of her parents and refused the marriage they had arranged for her in order to live a consecrated life of devotion, prayer, and service. As the abbess of San Damiano, where Saint Francis had rebuilt the physical church, Clare made her contributions to the rebuilding and reordering of monastic life. When her convent was stormed by Frederick the Second’s invading troops, she simply held up the host before them, and they scattered.
Saint Clare, known for her clairvoyant abilities, is the patron of television and remote communication. When she was too ill to attend mass, she was able to watch the holy celebration on the wall of her room. She is also the patron of eye disease, goldsmiths, and laundry.
